Sheeple

I think this article goes overboard, but there's truth in it unfortunately.

It is in America, where the sheeple have been terrorized into staying inside the boundaries of their little “protest zones,” that you find a fragile, unstable nation.

Homemade Kahlua

Oh Lord..... who woulda thunk it?!!!
clipped from www.yumsugar.com

Homemade Kahlua

From Scott Baird of 15 Romolo [1]
INGREDIENTS

1 750 ml bottle vodka or white rum (I used Stoli) 1 1/4 cups dark rum (Scott recommended Pampero, but I couldn't find it) 1 1/2 cups sugar 3/4 pound whole coffee beans 1 tablespoon cocoa nib (optional) 1 vanilla bean cinnamon stick, slice of orange peel (optional)

DIRECTIONS
  1. Combine all of the ingredients in a sealable container. Shake hard to combine.
  2. Label with the date and let sit in a cool, dark place for three weeks. Shake or stir the mixture several times of week.
  3. Strain through cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer into a clean vessel. Use like you would Kahlua or any other coffee liquor.

Makes 1 bottle of Kahlua.

This annual ranking, published by the United Health Foundation, looks at 22 indicators of health, including everything from how many children receive recommended vaccinations, to obesity and smoking rates, to cancer deaths. Secret Amazon Deal Finder

This is a really cool tool - easy and quick to use. It even has an option for Amazon Prime items.
clipped from deallocker.com

1. Pick a category, say Kitchen & Housewares.

2. Pick a minimum discount, maybe 70% off!

3. Click "Find Amazon discounts".

Did you know Amazon keeps track of Amazon price drops? Here is a tool to find the secret (and not so secret) Amazon discounts. These are different than Amazon.com coupons, these simply items where the price has dropped. Sometimes it is the normal pace of innovation, last years plasma TV is 50% off this year, and sometimes you find Amazon price mistakes. Most often you come across Amazon items on sale at bargain prices.

This the only tool that lets you find Amazon discounts from 10% to 99% percent off for Amazon.com and every other Amazon site! We let you search Amazon UK discounts, Amazon Canada discounts, Amazon France discounts, and Amazon Germany discounts. (Amazon Japan is coming soon).

In addition to Amazon discount finder we can help you find an amazon coupon code or a discount amazon gift certificate.

    Amazon Prime Try-Out

I forgot to mention I joined Amazon Prime this morning. You get a 30-day free trial and then are charged $79 if you don't cancel before the trial is over. I think I am going to keep it and pay the annual subscription. It all started with wanting to buy the Castile soap in my previous post. I hate paying shipping charges. I also bought a Mary Engelbreit 2010 box calendar-something I buy every year. If I would have bought the soap alone, I figure I saved around $8 on shipping. So $71 more on shipping fees to recover the fee. Wonder how long that will take me?
I plan to use Amazon for some Christmas gifts and later on, I want to see what things I could buy out of the grocery section. I surfed around on there yesterday and it's hard for me to see any bargains because I use coupons. But I also noticed there were lots of things that aren't available in my area (small town, USA). And also Amazon provides an easy search for organic items. With my yearning to be "greener" and to "eat better" this could be a great help. Amazon sells Bob's Red Mill items which I have tried and like.
Along with Aldi's and growing my own (backyard garden), Amazon could be one more way out of the Walmart WarpZone.
I have always been pretty frugal and enjoy the creativity in being "one of those people" (hehe). But with the way things are going in the United States right now, I feel I need to let loose of a bunch of baggage (clutter) and tighten up on unneeded expenditures. Walmart is nothing but a big spending pit for me. I impulse buy like a maniac when I'm in one. My normal good cents sense just flies away.
I will have to watch how much I buy at Amazon and figure out if this was a good deal or not - more to come on that....well next November when the suscription ends or gets renewed.
Anyone else use Amazon Prime? What have your experiences been and do you think it is worth it?

    Castile Soap Order

Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps Pure-Castile Soap

I just put in an order for some castile soap at Amazon. I read through the reviews and this brand seemed to get the best reviews from everyone. I can't wait to get this and try it out. The reviewers have used it for everything from cleaning dishes to washing their hair. If it works out, I will definitely be ordering again. The cost for two bottles would be a good price and some of the reviewers stated it lasted a long time.
I plan to first see if I can use it as shampoo. In an effort to get away from all the chemicals and to also go a bit greener, I am being more aware of the ingredients in things.
If you have tried or use castile soap, let me know your experiences with it. This is something I really hope works out.

    Dentist - Rotadent Toothbrush

Teeth of a model.Image via Wikipedia
I went to the dentist yesterday. It's the first of many appointments, unfortunately. Before I can even get my teeth fixed - I have to get them cleaned - before I can get my teeth cleaned, I need to get them precleaned. LOL umm yeah. I got the first half of my roots cleaned and am scheduled to get the other half of my mouth done next week and then another appointment next month to get a regular cleaning. I did yesterday without numbing and hope to get through the next one without too. I was happy about that. And also, I got a new toothbrush! It's called a Rotadent. It doesn't look like a regular brush - the bristles are smaller and flatten out when using it to get in between your teeth. I haven't used it yet by myself - it has to charge for 24hrs the first time. So tonight will be the first time I use it at home. I have 2 different things to use with it. A rinse to use as toothpaste and then some expensive toothpaste which they may want me to use long-term (yeah, it's $12 a tube). I can see that long-term thing coming at me already. But the dental hygienist said it lasts a long time - and I can see that being true because of the brush.
She also gave me some tablets to use to see how good of job I am doing with the brush. I'm glad for that - as I want to step up to the plate and do my part. I hate brushing my teeth, because they are sensitive to everything and look at it as a distasteful task to get over with as quickly as possible. This brush will force me to spend time with my teeth because you have to go around the gumline of each tooth. ......God give me the strength and patience and persistence.

    A Blob?

wanna try this out -- i love honey! and it sounds easy-peasy!
    clipped from www.rd.com
    20. Make a blob. From nutritionist Alana Unger, R.D., of The Lifestyle Center in Visalia, California, comes this sounds-weird-but-tastes-great idea for an on-the-go breakfast. Mix 1/2 cup peanut butter, 1/4 cup nonfat dry milk, 3 cups crushed flake cereal, and 2 tablespoons honey. Form into "blobs" (should make 10 blobs). Wrap each blob in plastic wrap and refrigerate. Grab a couple with a travel cup of skim milk and go!

Lynki -- The Best Add On for Tweets

Image representing Lynki as depicted in CrunchBaseImage via CrunchBase
I downloaded Lynki as an add-on to my Firefox browser from their main site, Mozilla yesterday. And I love it. If you like to tweet, comment and favorite websites as you are surfing, you will love this tool. It's so easy to use. It sits on the right-hand bottom side of the browser and you can open and close it at will. 2 letters: EZ! I have had a good time Stumbling and using it to tweet without ever leaving the page I am on. I have tried out a couple of other tools to twitter with and they just haven't worked out, so I am so glad to have found this. Give it a try!

    Personal Responsibility

I love this post -- please go to the original blog to read the whole thing. I fully agree with this post. I am in contact with so many people who don't take responsibility or they are making excuses for other people not taking responsibility.

This is what’s wrong with our society.  We’ve become a people that hold everyone responsible, but ourselves.

Never before have I seen so much blame being placed on everyone, but the person in the mirror.  People waving angry fingers at big oil companies for high gas prices rather than blaming themselves for owning two S.U.V.’s and a boat.  They completely ignore the law of supply and demand expecting that somehow prices will remain stagnant as consumption drastically increases.

This is like writing an angry letter to Hostess snack foods complaining about your recent weight gain while shoving 30 Twinkies in your gullet.  Life’s about choices.
